Community Outreach

We view Outreach as the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the community.

Outreach group shot TBO shopping

Outreach Food Pantries

Holy Cross supports the mission of both Outreach in Columbus, NC and Operation Hope in Landrum, SC. Four times a year on a Saturday morning, church youth head to the grocery store to purchase groceries, then head over to each ministry to stock their pantries. The youth then enjoy a pizza lunch together.

Holy Cross collects food for both food pantries (Outreach and Operation Hope) throughout the year. Place your goods downstairs in the respective baskets outside the parish hall. Click the button below for shopping lists from each ministry.

Kairos Tyger men

Kairos Prison Ministry

Kairos is a multi-denominational prison ministry which operates across the country. Twice every year, men from Holy Cross volunteer for a four day "walk" at Tyger River Correctional Facility. They spend a weekend ministering to the men in the facility, worshiping with them, eating with them, and sharing the love of Christ. That love comes in tangible form as Holy Cross members send dozens of homemade cookies with the volunteers as well as monetary donations to pay for lunches. Our Holy Cross children design placemats for the men to use during their meals. People are asked to sign up to pray around the clock as the four day walk is happening. If you have questions or would like to join the Holy Cross KAIROS team, please email Bob Morrissey: 1bmorrisseyjr@gmail.com

Habitat house site

Habitat for Humanity

Holy Cross partners with Habitat for Humanity to provide housing to socio-economically disadvantaged individuals in the local community. Holy Cross members supported repair work on an existing home in Polk County and a new home build in Columbus, NC.

Robert blessing awardees Scholarship Sunday

Scholarship Sunday

"An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge." Proverbs 18:15

Each year the Holy Cross Memorial Scholarship Committee is pleased to award scholarships to seminarians, graduating seniors from Polk County High School, Landrum High School and college students who reapply each year. The scholarship awards annually total around $27,000. We are fortunate and thankful to have this opportunity at Holy Cross to reach out to our own students and those of the community to help them reach their educational goals in life.

The funds for these scholarships come from special endowments for the purpose of education of young people.

All awardees and their families are invited to share a service and reception on our annual Scholarship Sunday.

Scholarship applications and re-applications are always due by noon on March 1st. Forms are available below:
