Holy Cross Evensong Choir

Service of Choral Evensong for the Feast to St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis is well known as the patron saint of the animals, and the Holy Cross music ministry will celebrate this in song, with texts focusing God’s creation. Music will include “Be Still” by Rick Sowash, the Evening Service in c minor by George Dyson, the “Prayer of St. Francis” by Jessica French, and congregational hymns. The service will be sung by the Holy Cross evensong choir.

From the Northland, celebrates the music of Leo Sowerby. Leo Sowerby was throughout much of the 20th century one of America’s best known sacred music composers. He wrote in a unique style influenced by jazz and movie music of the time. He truly embodied the spirit of the “Roaring Twenties”. This program will include some of Sowerby’s organ and piano music. Performers will be Brennan Szafron, organist and Stephen Graff, pianist. Dr. Graff is a professor of piano at Converse University in Spartanburg and has had a widely varied performance career. Freewill offering. This event is jointly sponsored by the Spartanburg and Blue Ridge chapters of the American Guild of Organists.
